The Bulletproof Leader

In the last year or so, I have really lucked out in being at a great workplace where leadership development is taken to a whole new level. I work for a small business that believes very strongly in collaboration. My boss has become a mentor figure, and whether it’s a discussion between the two of us or when we are in meetings with other store managers, there are always talks about leadership styles, what works and what doesn’t, what the company we work for is looking for in leadership, and what am I looking for in leadership as I begin to cultivate a business goal for myself.

I came across a Bible study in the Bible app about leadership where the source content comes from The Bulletproof Leader by Glenn Dorsey. I liked the excerpts, so I bought the book to read. My boss is also a book lover, and leadership books were brought up during a meeting. All of us managers talked about what books we’ve read on leadership, and if we were currently reading one to share the progress and what the takeaway has been.

I took a lot of notes while reading The Bulletproof Leader. I liked that the workplace model was something that can be relatable now. You can lead effectively with attainable expectations and tap in to the human level of the workplace. The book focuses on human qualities of a leader, such as how transparent you are in your character and your struggles, different levels of trust within the business, and leading with Christ-like qualities such as fairness and accountability with your fellow man/woman. I appreciated the real-life application of those Biblical principles.

This is a book that I’m keeping. I want to explore different leadership styles, comparing the pro and cons of both, then make my own way with what works. Leading is difficult, and there are so many ways to do it and few of those ways bring positive results.
