It has been a great while. A lot of good things have been happening that have come out of negative things. I am ready to have my life back.
I have read a Sigma Force novel in the past, The Doomsday Key, and enjoyed it. . I clearly read them out of order by reading The Last Oracle next. There are references to previous books in the series, so if you are new to the Sigma Force series, I would read them in order if you can. To me, they seem episodic, so the references do not really bother me, but I can see where they would bother others.
The Last Oracle takes on the topic of the Oracle of Delphi, a group of women where one of them can see the future. It is claimed that they have been around since the beginning of civilizations. The book starts wit [Spoiler] an attack on their temple led by Romans and the group tries to take their stand and perishes. It jumps forward to the Cold War era where scientific research is in full force in regards to telepathic and telekinetic powers. It time skips again to the present where Gray Pierce leads a mission across the world to find out what a Russian group is doing with kids on the autistic spectrum.
I enjoyed reading this one. It would get predictable at times, especially with how things had to happen so there is a happy ending and the turn of events to keep the book moving. The characters were not the most dynamic, but there was enough relevant information to not bog down the action and story.
I appreciate the approach to the different historical topics and theories surrounding them. I am not a huge fan of books where government involvement is the center, so with the Sigma Force series, there is more emphasis on history and artifacts, or in this case it was applying science to something to make it tangible.
I would read this again when I want to coast easily through a book. If you are interested in reading The Last Oracle, I would check it out here.
