It has finally coming to an end. The world famous manga/anime Attack on Titan, after four seasons and ten years, is finally coming to an end.
For those who do not know, Attack on Titan is about a group of people raised in a world of walls, where an enemy, called titans, stands outside the walls waiting to kill and eat them. As three friends grow up and enroll in the Survey Corp, later called the Scouting Regiment, they go outside the walls to learn about the titans and to explore the world beyond the walls. They find that things are not as they seem.
In the manga that would cover the first two seasons, there is great story and action. The characters develop well and I connected with them well. When they accomplish the major goal that the Scouts wanted to accomplish, the manga that goes on from there becomes very political heavy, with a lot of racial undertones that remind me of WWII era thinking. It is such a huge switch, with some aspects being good and some being just a little bit messy.
I will say, though, I remained invested to the end because I wanted to see that Eren, Mikasa, and Armin made it through still friends and survivors. It remained an overall good story that speaks a lot on friendship, one’s moral code, and generational issues based on authority and race.
I might read this again in a few years when the anime is over and the hype has died down. I would recommend it for everyone to try. It does get a little gory with all of the action, but I would say to stick with it. If you are interested in trying out Attack on Titan, you can find the first volume here.
