I thought I would change it up a little bit, partly because I had been moving to a new place and there have been ongoing obstacles, and also because I miss reading manga.
I guess people find it surprising that I am into anime. I started watching back in middle school when a friend had introduced me to the manga for Inuyasha and I had started watching Case Closed/ Detective Conan on Adult Swim. It was kind of on and off through the years until my husband and I started dating, then that was when it has been a consistent enjoyment. I had negative experiences with other people and anime up until that point, so it is nice to be around people now who are not weebs about it. You like what you like sort of thing.
Anyways, I had watched Days when it came out as an anime, and it really bummed me out that they decided not to continue it because they left it on a cliffhanger and there is plenty of material to keep it going. So I was able to find it on my manga app and have not looked back. So far, I am on chapter 55 of 276. The manga is still going.
Days is about a guy named Tsukushi who is invited to play soccer with a random person he met on the street, Kazuma. The two of them become best friends and go try out for the high school team, which is one of the top in the country. Tsukushi has never played soccer before in his life, but he is willing to learn and finds how much fun soccer is as he makes friends.
I will say that for a manga, Days is kind of a stereotypical story: the main character has never played the sport before, but is either incredibly naturally gifted, or, in this case, sucks really bad, but you go through the ropes with them as they grow in the skill. Days has recycled characters: everyone else is on a god-tier in terms of playing, everyone believes that Tsukushi has the potential to be the next captain Mizuki, everyone has this “well…. duh” attitude, etc.
I still am very invested in Days, so I would not doubt that I will catch up to it pretty soon. I will try to dive back into regular books by then, but for now this is a nice break.
If you want to check Days out, you can find the hard copies of the manga here. There are also manga websites and apps available as well. The anime is currently available on Crunchyroll.
