This was a quick read, indeed. It is also the first for me reading something in the romantic genre.
In terms of the genre itself, I do not think I would read something like this again. I would like to think it is not because of how I was raised, which was in the church and conservative, but more of who I am now as someone who is wanting to be their own person. I look at it from my creative view that everyone is beautifully made, bodies are bodies. I do not see the point in emphasizing it so much to a point where a person’s physical appearance is the continual first point to enter my mind, followed by explicit content. This was not a turn on for me, in that sense. I know that the authors really want to create that image for the reader, but when I read other books, there is not so much repetitiveness of how every outfit each day describing how it accentuates their figure to get the picture that the character is a hawt piece of ass.
In terms of the book, I think because it takes place in New York City and the atmosphere is the wealthy and high fashion, I understand the constant label dropping and the description for the everyday outfits that do not normally need the constant describing. I am glad it did not leave me in ruts, that the story pressed forward and provided other entertainment, such as Diana making a name for herself without riding on other’s coattails. It felt like fan service to me, that she falls into a ditch and manages to climb back out and, dammit, look even better than before she fell in, and on top of that she lands herself not one, but two hawt men. Of course everyone loves her and the naysayers are just jealous bitches. Of course.
I really did not want to make this a roast because this is the first book for this genre, so who am I to say that other books like this follow the same recipe? All I can say is that I tried it and, clearly, did not enjoy it. The writing was not bad, and I am again glad that story pushed through and did not stall, I will give Bagshawe that.
If this is your cup of tea (ha-ha because Diana is British) then you can find For All the Wrong Reasons right here.
