The Shack

I remember reading this in high school and it blew me away, not just as a Christian, but also as non-biased reader. I know that the movie adaption came out about a year, or so ago, and I have not seen it yet, nor do I want to. The Shack for me is something that is a mentally visual private time. If I had read it more recently when several people and animals in my life passed away, then it would certainly have been much harder to swallow.

For those who are not aware of the premise, it is about a father who loses his little girl in one of the most gruesome ways, and he sucks at self coping. In my language, God invites him to have a showdown in the cabin that his daughter was found in several years before.

If you are currently in a state of grief and sadness, this may be hard to read. It may be hard to read if you do not have a relationship with God, only because it focuses so much on why bad things happen to innocents and the healing you receive when you rely fully on God to get you through it. I only note this for my non-Christian friends.

I would still say read it because regardless of where you are in a faith-based sense, this will push you in a positive direction of healing through loss. Regardless of what you do and do not believe, death is a thing in every way that it comes in, and understanding that there is a healthy way of going through it is your starter.
