Sex and the City

Do not be surprised with the influx of posts being made; I would rather get a review written up once the read has been read instead of waiting the proper designated day every week. Not right now when there is so much time to read so many books.

Did any of you ever watch Sex and the City? I remember being in grade school; my mom went through a phase when everyone was still huge on cable TV before Netflix and shit; I would watch with her when I could not sleep. It was entertaining, this comedic attempt to analyze every kind of person and the interaction with sex. Yes, it is stupid; badly described plot for both book, show, and movies: basic white bitches in New York kiss and tell, and one of them writes about it while trying to seem smart and and philosophical about it.

For those who have seen the show, the movies, etc., you can skip the previous paragraph [ha-ha too late] and start here. The book is a very simplified version of the show. Carrie’s core group of friends are slightly different, as she never seems to see the same people on the regular for all we know. She does always go to the same places, though. The biggest difference that I saw with Carrie in the book versus the show was that in the show she is presented as this person who is young, successful, and is just simply living her best life while in the back of her mind wondering who that “Mr. Right” will be as she checks various guys off the list. In the book, Carrie is presented as the more vulnerable with the sudden downward spiral kind; you think she is okay and very similar to TV show Carrie, but then you start to notice that she really is not okay and you start to feel bad for her, at least I did. I think in either form of media you get Sex and the City, Carrie is someone you will enjoy watching.

I thought it was a little odd how prevalent Mr. Big was in the book compared to what I remember from the show. I do not remember him showing up in the show very much, just popping up here and there. In the book, there is a clear division of when he is present and when he is not; it is interesting to see how being in a relationship with someone has such an effect on a person, because that is when I think Carrie begins to spiral.

I am finding how hilarious it is that I am making this book into a discussion kind. I would recommend reading this, especially if you were huge into the show. This is not like Fifty Shades of Grey where you get explicit, this is more of a comedic thing which is nice so there is no limit of audience. If you are interested in Sex and the City, you can find it here.
