The Little Blue Kite

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone had a heartwarming and safe Christmas and New Year. I hope you all make this year a year where doors open for you to run through without fear, but with love, compassion, and endless joy,

I thought I would start off this year with The Little Blue Kite, which I had been in great anticipation of getting. I do not know if I had mentioned it before, but Mark Z. Danielewski is one of my favorite authors. He wants people to dig deep for the meat of his books, and that works great for me because I am an over thinker that digs way too deep into things.

This story is simple with an amazing concept. Danielewski has formatted The Little Blue Kite to be read in three different ways so anyone at literally any age can read. The rules are laid out in the jacket description so they are simple to follow. The plot is of a little blue kite, easy enough, that flies freely through the skies. As you read the second version, the story evolves with the added character named Kai who learns to overcome fear so that he can do good in the world. The third version adds more depth and description so someone of at least a middle school level can read it.

I was talking about The Little Blue Kite with a co-worker and the story’s message and she was really impressed with the concept of overcoming your fear so you can do good in your world. Danielewski has a kid who I believe is still fairly young, so to say that he wrote this specifically with her mind is an incredibly endearing move.

I am planning on keeping this book and rereading it every now and then. I also would like to applaud the illustrator because the backgrounds look amazing. They have a watercolor look about them; I just started playing around with watercolor and even though I probably would not continue once I have used up what I have, I definitely love what other people do with it.

You can find The Little Blue Kite here. I would encourage those especially with smol kids would get a copy. This is a book you would not need to get rid of because they get older.

10/10
