The Third Millennium

I cannot remember off the top of the head if I have kept this one because I wanted my husband to check it out. It is Christian fiction, so if you wanted to skip reading this, there is no offense.

I do remember reading this book though, and I thought it was a very interesting take on the End Times, which opens a can of worms in any Christian conversation because we can talk about it all day long and not get anywhere because we do not know when and how it will happen, and we frankly never will because the Bible says we can guess all day, but we will never know. The only thing we know is that there are a bazillion theories on it. From my time in college [I went to a private Christian one], Revelations can be summarized with three different ways that describe the End Times, where Jesus comes back for the final battle against Satan. If you are familiar with the Left Behind series, that covers one of the three basic ways. A new popular theory is that there are generational End Times, such as when the Roman Empire fell, WWII, etc; when a mass generation dies off like that it is considered because basically everyone on Earth thought the world was ending, which it did for such a huge number. End of theology lesson.

The Third Millennium covers a different theory of what will happen, and it was an interesting take on the subject. No one was left behind, everyone endured it together. The storyline follows a family as they experience the End Times. I really liked being able to follow along in a semi-real time scenario because there was just so much happening with all of the chaos. I appreciate how realistic this was it terms of being able to relate to both non-believers and believers alike, like this is something that is feasibly possible. This was something we discussed while I was in college.

This is not a challenging book by any means; that would probably be the only draw. I read this in high school, then I read it again because I had forgotten certain scenes and because, again, it was relevant to school at the time.

I would recommend it, especially for discussion groups that are faith-based because who does not like a long discussion about the End Times? I would recommend it outside of a group setting as well if you are looking to form your own opinion. I know this is a work of fiction, but this is based off of something I believe will be a real thing.

You can find the book here.
